Elevating Work Platform Inspections

Certification & Compliance

Elevated work platforms (EWP) such as scissor lifts and boom lifts are important pieces of machinery that must be tested regularly to ensure safety. All EWPs require a 6 monthly inspection and a major inspection at 10 years then every 5 years by a competent person, to ensure the machine is compliant and safe to operate.

In service re-testing of all insulated equipment used in the electrical industry, mining, industrial and commercial applications, to an appropriate international standard is undertaken. This includes, but is not limited to, gloves, guards, operating sticks, mats, tree trimming equipment, jumpers, and portable earths.

5 and 10 year Major inspections

Do you own an Elevated Work Platform that is greater than or approaching 10 years since the date manufacture? EWPs greater than 10 years old need to have a major inspection carried out that involves dismantling, inspecting and testing the critical safety components of the machine. This ensures that no cracks or damage has developed, and that your equipment continues to be safe to operate.

During a 10 year inspections, your EWP will be strictly tested to cover all functions identified by the manufacturer as being critical to the safety of the machine. Including non destructive structural testing of welds and steel work.
Acoustic Emission Tests
An Acoustic Emission Test is required on all mobile elevating work platform's fitted with a fibreglass boom (FRP). The test involves sophisticated equipment to detect any breaks or cracks in fibres as a load is applied and withdrawn over pre-termined periods as required by AS/NZS 4748 - Acoustic Emission Testing of Fibreglass Insulated Booms on Elevating Work Platforms.
Safety Inspection Certificates
The Safety Inspection Certificate Testing is a key element of EWP safety in New Zealand. This inspection checks that the equipment is in sound condition and that it is fully compliant with the requirements of the Best Practice Guidelines for EWP. The inspection involves testing an EWP through its full range of functions.
